New cameras are so desirable
It’s said that a great photograph is down to the ability of the photographer, and not their camera.
I certainly won’t disagree with a word of that, because I believe it’s true.
However the massive strides being made in camera development these days must leave every photographer desiring a new one.
Since phones began including cameras the market has become more competitive and innovative.
While the first cameras in phones were little more than an interesting gimmick, they began to blossom very quickly.
The cameras obviously have to be very small to fit into a smartphone body.
Regular cameras have begun to shrink also, with CSCs generally being smaller than DSLRs.
They may be shrinking in size but their specifications are growing at a similar rate.
No matter how good your photographs are, it’s hard not to desire some of the latest cameras.
Add lenses to your photography wish list
A camera is not complete without a lens, well if it’s an interchangeable lens camera, it’ not.
And just like cameras, there’s always new lenses coming on the market.
Again the construction of new lenses are generally a step or two ahead of what it used to be.
There’s a greater amount of image stabilisation built into the lenses that have that feature, with almost every new upgrade.
It’s not the only improved feature, but it’s always a welcome one.
Some brands include the image stabilisation in the camera bodies, and they’re developing also.
With third party lenses being available for most cameras, that market is very competitive also.
There’s no part of a lens more important than the actual glass.
Improvements to the development and manufacture of lens glass makes the latest version of any lens worth having.
It’s easy to add some lenses to any photography wish list.
There’s so many great photo accessories
While the camera is unquestionably the most fundamental item for taking photographs, it’s not equipment used in photography.
All the others are to help the camera, not to replace it, or to substitute for it.
Most people start taking photographs with just a camera or smartphone.
When they develop a liking for, and a desire to improve at photography, then they’ll start to extend their gear.
How much or in what order they ad to their camera gear is entirely a personal choice.
It doesn’t matter how much equipment any photographer has, there’s always something more we’d like.
Your photography wish list will almost certainly contain some longed for accessories.
Learn some more about photography
You can always learn something new about photography, regardless of how much you know.
One of the ways to do so is to take some lessons or a photography course.
This you can do by attending a class somewhere in town, or studying a course online.
The first option will require you to get to that class every day, week or whenever.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, but there is another way; learning at home, online.
You can do this when you like, at your own pace, and in the comfort of your own home.
That way you don’t have to face bad weather, catch a bus, or get stuck in traffic.
You can check out a very good one, right from here, right now, by clicking this link.
A website can be invaluable
It’s not essential for a photographer to have a website, but it’s no hinderance to have one.
With one you can offer for sale any photographic wares you have to sell.
You can organize and promote your business worldwide, twenty four hours a day.
Yes, you can do all that with social media as well, and faster than building an audience for a website.
Social media can backfire though, if they change the way they operate, which they occasionally do.
When that happens your audience can virtually disappear overnight and your momentum drops off a cliff.
These changes are often aimed at forcing you to buy advertising, to pay for what you got free.
Now there’s nothing wrong with any business trying to get revenue, but these can happen without warning or expectation.
With your own website you have more control over what you do and how you do it.
You will need to use social media to build your audience, and find another way to retain it.
The options for getting a website
There are options available for getting yourself a photography website.
One option is readymade site specifically designed for photography and photographers.
Another option is along the same lines but not exclusively for photography websites, but aimed at all kind of website.
The most popular platform for building websites is WordPress.org, which is free to use.
However with WordPress you have to buy hosting separately which is not the case with the others above.
This site is built on the WordPress platform and hosted on a separate hosting account.
A final option is to build your own site entirely or hire someone to do so for you.
If you know HTML this is a viable option, if you don’t it involves a steep learning curve.
Hiring a professional to build it for you is a good option, but an expensive one.
Everyone likes books
No photography wish list could be complete without the inclusion of some photography books.
They start with a range of complete how to photography hand books.
These would be useful for new photographers but would offer little new to seasoned photographers.
There are many instruction books which deal with one genre of photography, and most photographers would like some of those.
Some books are mainly a collection of photographs, either by one photographer or more than one.
Collections of historical photographs are fascinating and would be of interest to most people.
The books that show photos by numerous photographers are often in aid of a cause or charity, usually good books.
Then there’s biography, autobiography and history of photography volumes.
You can browse some of the many photography books available to buy.
